Spring Checklist: Electrical System & Components

The weather is improving and more people are getting out on the water.  Make sure you perform your Spring Checklist to ensure a safe boating season.  Here are some helpful tips for checking your electrical system and components:

  • Check battery water level
  • Check/recharge batteries
  • Check terminals for corrosion, clean, and lubricate
  • Check bonding system
  • Inspect all wiring for wear and chafe
  • Test all gauges for operability
  • Check shore power and charger
  • Check for spare fuses
  • Check all lighting fixtures (including navigation lights) and make sure you have spare bulbs
  • Check all electronics for proper operation
  • Inspect antennas

Please consult your boat’s operating manual before conducting any suggested actions.

Happy Easter

Help us celebrate Easter by participating in our Easter Candy Guess contest.  There is a jar of Easter candy at our Marina Services Desk in the Office.  Van Isle Marina invites all of our guests visiting us to submit your guess of how many candies are in the jar.  The person who guesses the closest to the actual number wins the jar of candy.  Only five guesses per person.   The winner will be announced Thursday April 5th, 2012.

Spring Checklist: Water & Head Systems

We live in such a beautiful location with islands galore to explore right at our doorstep.  So why take the chance of postponing your boating season by not performing a Spring Checklist?  Below are a few helpful tips:

Water System
  • Flush Tank
  • Check water system and pump for leaks and proper operation
  • Check hot water tank is working on both AC and engines
  • Check for tank cap keys on board
  • Check and clean shower sump pump screens
Head System
  • Check for smooth operation – lubricate and clean as necessary
  • If equipped with treatment system, have chemicals on hand
  • Y-valve operation checked, valve labeled & secured
